In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is the one of whom the prophet Isaiah spoke when he said, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”

That tag could have been applied to John the Baptist. He was a get-ready man if there ever was one. "A voice crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord....’"
This is the season of getting ready. That is the purpose of the Advent (the days leading up to Christmas). It is a time to get ready for the celebration of the Lord's birth.
