In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem.
(Matthew 2.1 NRSV)

I have one final bit of Christmas humor for you. Brenda Roberts of Stone Mountain, Georgia is a Sunday School teacher. She was reading the story of Jesus' birth to her daycare children one morning. As usual, she stopped to see if they understood. "What do we call the three wise men?" she asked. "The three maggots," replied a bright 5yearold. "What gifts did the Magi bring baby Jesus?" the teacher corrected. "Gold, frankensteins and smurfs!" the same 5yearold replied.

“When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

God of love, help me to be generous in giving like you have been generous in giving to me in Jesus. Amen.
