I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
(Genesis 12.2 NRSV)

Bob Castleberry of Texas, USA was fortunate enough to win the $10 Million Publisher's clearing House Sweepstakes. No longer needing the income from his job, he decided to pursue a longing he had had to become active in local government. He ran for mayor and won. Now, Castleberry feels that his financial independence will give him a chance to spend his time giving something back to his community. We all need a way to say thank you. Christ says the best way is to use what we have to his glory and to the service of humankind.

Now some of us may be saying, "Hold on there. If I won a sweepstakes, even a $1 million sweepstakes, I would be happy to make my life count for something worthwhile." The point is that you have won a sweepstakes, already. If you are alive in body and spirit, if you live in a free land, if you have someone who loves you, if you know the comfort of Christ, you are already a winner. If ever you are going to make your life count for something, it will be right now!

Loving God, may I give of myself to share what you have given to me. Amen.
