See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God;
and that is what we are.
(1 John 3,1
NRSV)
PEOPLE magazine, December 12, 1988: A story appeared about the Governor of Nebraska.
According to this story the Governor was receiving sterling behind-the-scenes support from a
good spouse. There's nothing too unusual about that. What is unusual is that the state's
governor was a woman, Mrs. Kay Orr. The "little homemaker" was her husband Bill. Bill is a
senior vice-president for a large life insurance company. While Kay served as Governor, though,
he found himself involved with such things as grocery shopping, cooking, and decorating. He
said he plans to publish a cookbook, called THE FIRST GENTLEMAN'S COOKBOOK.
Our world is full of opportunities to serve It's a world Jesus would applaud for the most part. No
one treated women with more dignity than did he. We are only now catching up with where he
has been all along. Of course, we have a long way to go. Our world needs the kind of love Jesus
offers. Let's fill our hearts with live. Then go out into this beautiful world and share it!
Dear God, I am so grateful for your love. Teach me and fill me with your love, so I can give it
away. Amen.
