And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not
forsaken those who seek you.
(Psalm 9.10
NRSV)
Dr. Eugene Brice tells of standing a while back in the
yard of Amelia Earhart's old home up in Atchison, Kansas. As he
looked far down the bluff at the Missouri River, he thought of
this Kansas girl who would learn to fly. First woman to fly
across the Atlantic, first woman to fly from Hawaii to
California, first woman to attempt an around the world solo
flight. Last heard from in 1937 far out over the Pacific, her
last words were simple: "Position doubtful," and then she was
gone. There are many people who can identify with those words: "Position doubtful." Where is
God, we ask?
Psalm 62.6 says, "He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken."
Jesus once said, in John 16.32, "Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me."
God is with us. We are not alone.
Dear God, my position is certainly not doubtful when Jesus is living and walking with me. Amen.
