Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a
blessing. It is for this that you were called that you might inherit a blessing.
Life can be very frustrating, but do not let it get to you. Use your frustration to make our world
better!
(1 Peter 3.9
NRSV)
George Crum was an Indian chief a century and a half ago. He was also a chef at the Moon Lake
Lodge in Saratoga Springs, New York. Wealthy Cornelius Vanderbilt came in one evening and
ordered a rather new dish called French Fried potatoes. When it was brought out he sent it back
to the kitchen saying they were too thick for French fries, and he knew since he had just returned
from France. George Crum prepared more french fries and cut them thinner. Again Vanderbilt
sent them back. George Crum was frustrated and a little bit angry. He cut the next potato razor
thin, dipped it in boiling fat, and personally took them out to Vanderbilt. Surprise! Vanderbilt liked
this American variation of French Fries. George Crum had invented what we call today the
Potato Chip! His frustration and anger led to a new food invention.
Loving God, in the frustrating moments of my life, help me to overcome it so I can share your
love. Amen.
