So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if
we do not give up.
Archibald Rutledge tells of seeing a bird build its nest. Patiently and hard it worked all day. That
night a storm came and the next morning the little bird's home lay on the ground in pathetic ruin.
The bird was there, too, however. It was not mourning over the destruction. It was busily
rebuilding.
That should be the way we handle setbacks. With God at the helm of our lives, we will succeed.
(Galatians 6.9
NRSV)
Many of us think that life should always give us a wind at our back so we may float through life
effortlessly. We whimper if things do not go our way. We whine at every set back. If the currents
against us are strong enough, we throw up our hands and say, "Oh well, I wasn't meant to
succeed anyway."
Dear God, lead the way and pick me up when I fall from the weight of life. Amen.
