What you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people
who will be able to teach others as well. 3Share in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
Then some of the children's parents began attending church. One Sunday morning when the
invitation was given one of the young people came forward with his younger brother, followed
closely by their mother. All three of them made commitments that morning to Jesus Christ. And
before too long this family was bringing other families. Eventually most of those children and
youth and even some of their parents made decisions to follow Christ. God used this woman
who felt she was incapable of teaching. God could use her because she had a servants heart.
Followers of Jesus do the same kind of faithful work.
(2 Timothy 2.2-3
NRSV)
A young woman was asked if she would be interested in teaching a Sunday School class of
youngsters. Her response was honest; she didn't feel she was capable of teaching Sunday
School. But there was something else she could do. She volunteered to recruit children and
young people. Each Sunday morning she would fill up her car with children and young people
who had no other means of transportation and bring them to Sunday School. Thanks to this
woman's dedication, there were Sundays when the number of young people present was
doubled. Unfortunately there was some grumbling among some about the rowdiness that could
occur when so many unattended children were present. There were some in the church who
even thought they should focus only on adults and not spend so much time on children and
youth.
Loving God, help me to see the work and ministry I can do for you and your people. Amen.
