When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."
Notice that Jesus' action was not overly complicated nor did it involve a lot of time. Most of the
time when we are called to act, it will not involve a lot of effort or time. It may be as simply as
cheering someone up. It may include visiting someone who is sick or it may include helping to
plan and carry out a program in our church or community. And there most certainly will be times
when we will be a call to serve where a lot of time and effort will be required.
Whatever we are being invited to do--we must act. Or, we may lose the opportunity that God has
before us.
(John 2.3
NRSV)
Jesus recognized the confidence that Mary had in him, so he simply said to the servants, "Fill
the jars with water. Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward."
God of action, when you call, help me to respond with love and action. Amen.
