I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his
sufferings by becoming like him in his death.
"I remember Ruth Davis who would not let me become a 'drop
out' in Sunday School. Several times I stopped going to Sunday
School because I liked to go to the golf course on Sunday mornings
to earn money as a caddy. When I would miss three Sundays in a
row, Mrs. Davis would come to our house and would say to me,
'Curtis, tomorrow morning I will be here at 9:30 to pick you up.
Be ready.' I was always ready when she stopped by. She was someone
special. The only way I can repay her is by encouraging someone
else to become part of the Christian family.
Who are you helping to know Christ?
(Philippians 3.10
NRSV)
Dr. Curtis Schofield, a Christian pastor and former College
President tells about the people who were influential in his life.
"I remember, with gratitude, that Al Morton changed everything for
me as a child by inviting me to Sunday School. Up until I went to
Sunday School my experience in a new school, and in a new town, was
that the people did not like 'Yankees.' I was a newcomer from
Wisconsin in a small, southern coal town. Once I arrived in Sunday
School everything changed. I was treated with care and respect.
Now I know it was because of the influence of Jesus Christ. The
power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ can change even deep-seated
prejudices that otherwise control us.
Lord Jesus, help me as I make a difference to someone in need of your salvation. Amen.
