Blessed are those who trust in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.
Near the end of the movie, he speaks to a hospital aide about his life. He says: "It's just a rough
cut. I need more time." For him life is like a movie. If he could just take it into the editing room
and cut here and there, life would work out all right. He saw the "rough cut" and wanted more
time to revise and edit; but it was too late.
How true to life. "Cursed is the man," says Jeremiah, "who trusts in man and makes flesh his
arm, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert...." Some people live
barren, empty lives.
Of course, we can find a wonderfully fulfilling life in God through Jesus Christ. He is the one who
brings life to life!
(Jeremiah 17.7
NRSV)
Martin Thielen tells about a scene in the movie ALL THAT JAZZ. The main character in this
somewhat bizarre movie is a Broadway choreographer. Although tremendously successful in
his career, his personal life is in a shambles--relationally and physically. Finally, the endless
drinking, smoking, drugs, and affairs catches up with him. He has a heart attack and is dying.
Dear God, come into my life today to bring me life, and help me to walk in your holy ways. Amen.
