We know that we are God's children, and that the whole world lies under the
power of the evil one.
We all feel like that at times. It is at such times that we need to remind ourselves, as did Martin
Luther, that we are baptized. We are members of the family of God. We are God's own sons
and daughters. And it was not our doing. It was by the grace of God that we were elevated to this
high station as children of God.
(1 John 5.19
NRSV)
In a PEANUTS cartoon, Charlie Brown and Linus are talking. Linus says, "I feel kind of
depressed today. Do you ever have the feeling that life has passed you by, Charlie Brown?"
Charlie Brown answers, "Worse than that. Sometimes I think life and I are going in opposite
directions!"
Dear God, remind me often that I belong to you. Amen.
