The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may
have life,
and have it abundantly.
We don't know a whole lot about him--this stranger from
Nazareth. But what we do know brings meaning and purpose into our
lives, helps us find strength to resist those powers within and
without that would destroy us, and gives us a hope everlasting in
a final victory of love over hate, joy over pain and justice over
unrighteousness.
(John 10:10
NRSV)
We know comparatively little about the man, Jesus. It has
recently been noted that the Lyndon Johnson Library,
commemorating the life and accomplishments of this colorful and
controversial former president, contains over thirty-two million
documents. Imagine that. Thirty-two million documents. Contrast
that total to a very slender volume of material which we could
put together about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ.
Dear Jesus, thank you for bringing meaning and purpose to my life. Amen.
