He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from
God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
Either we recognize that everything we have comes from God and give Him
the glory that is due Him, or we delude ourselves into thinking
that we have been living in a vacuum where everything has been up
to us. And if we acknowledge that He IS the source of all we have
and all we are, then we must begin living accordingly.
(1 Corinthians 1.30
NRSV)
David Steindl-Rast points out that in our English
language there is no such thing as being half full of thanks or
gratitude: we are either thankFUL or grateFUL. It is impossible
to celebrate some great occasion half-heartedly.
God of thanks, you are the source of all that I am. May I live in a way that will show it. Amen.
