In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be
the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
I want to say to Mr. Ripley, "Believe it or not there once was a greater display of love than that
of Mr. de Leclure. It was the love of God displayed on the cross of Calvary."
When God could not do anything with us, He did something for us. He gave us His Son.
(1 John 4.10
NRSV)
Somewhere I read about an artist in Paris named Marcel de Leclure, who set the world's
record for composing love letters. In 1875, Leclure sent his true love, Magdalene, a letter
containing only three words, "I Love You," repeated 1,875,000 times. But the story doesn't
end there. Leclure also repeated verbally the phrase "I love you," a total of 5,625,000 times.
Robert Ripley says, "Never was love made manifest by as great an expenditure of time and
effort."
Dear God, your love is awesome. I will nurture its growth in my heart, and I will pass it on.
Amen.
