Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at
home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill
of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
(Acts 2.46-47
NRSV)
The Christian faith is a communal faith. "Wherever two or three are gathered together in my
name, there I am also." The purpose of the Pentecost event was not simply the saving of
individual souls, but the creation of a new community. That community was and is
the church. And I am not exaggerating when I say that our future will be determined by how
well we live up to the standard of love set by the early church.
Dear God, guide my ways that I may spread and share your love, even when I don't feel like it.
Amen.
