Jesus said "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you
as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid."
That is what many of us would like to find. We would like to put down our anchor in a great sea
called, Pacific, Peaceful.
The Gospel tells us we can. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you; not as the
world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled," said Jesus. "Neither let them be
afraid."
(John 14.27
NRSV)
There is a great story about the explorer, Ferdinand Magellan. The date was 1520. For about
one year Magellan had battled foul weather and mutinous crews as he sought to find a
passage through South America. When he finally found his way through the raging seas of the
Atlantic to the great body of water that lay beyond this new continent, he named it "Pacific" or
"peaceful." And he and his men lifted their heads and gave thanks to God.
Dear God, may I find true peace in you and your son Jesus Christ. Amen.
