And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord
worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.
Remember how Paul warned against speaking in tongues without an interpreter present. The
purpose of the church is to communicate. We are God's Word in the world today. Why?
Because we are Christ's body and He is the Eternal Word. We are called to communicate the
Good News of God's love revealed in Christ.
(Mark
16.20
NRSV)
NEWSWEEK once cited a humorous historical footnote that reveals how easily
communications can be garbled. Some of you can remember that moving speech that
President John F. Kennedy gave at the Berlin Wall in 1963 which he ended by saying, "Ich bin
ein Berliner." Literally that translates to "I am a Berliner," but according to Newsweek, in the
German vernacular it really translates as "I am a jelly doughnut."
Lord Jesus, help me as I communicate the Good News. Amen.
