But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who
have died.
Mark Twain, in his typical blend of humor and sarcasm, once said that when he died, he would
like to go to Heaven for the climate, but would probably prefer Hell for the companionship. I
don't know about Twain, but the people I love and respect are in Heaven or on their way there
and someday I am going to join the party.
All of us must decide whether the Good News of the Gospel is true, that "God so loved the
world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life." If it is true, we ought to shout it from the roof-tops. If it is false, we
ought to acknowledge that a fraud has been perpetrated and close up shop. It is absurd to
settle for a blush and a vague reference to "the Christian hope." Christ is alive. He is the "first
fruits of those who have died."
Let us celebrate the resurrection hope!
(1 Corinthians 15.20
NRSV)
You are invited to a party. Maybe a celebration would be a better description. Or a
homecoming. Enjoy being with your friends? Have I got news for you! Everyone you have ever
held dear is going to be there.
Loving God, sending Jesus has given me hope, joy and peace. Thank you! Amen.
