Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings; for it is well for the
heart to be strengthened by grace.
Buildings may come down. People may tear us down. But, no one can tear up or beak up our
hearts when Jesus lives there.
(Hebrews 13.9
NRSV)
A Pennsylvania church leader tells of his family's stay in a dilapidated hotel one summer while
on vacation. They had made reservations long in advance, sight unseen. Upon awaking the
morning after their arrival, they heard the steady thud of a wrecking ball working very close to
them. The thuds kept getting closer and closer. Suddenly, they realized that the huge wrecking
ball was hitting the very building in which they were housed. They went out into the hall and
looked out the window. The hotel was being torn down around them.
Dear God, your gift of Jesus Christ guards my hear. May I help others to have such a great
gift. Amen.
