We entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
What does it mean, "he made him to be sin who knew no sin?" Perhaps the experience of
Portland, Oregon, Police Chief Charles Moose will be instructive. Late last year Moose moved
his home to Portland's gang-troubled Northeast section. This move was made to show the
police's commitment to this crime-plagued part of the city. So far, Moose has been involved in
at least two violent incidents in his new surroundings. Recently, while driving home, Moose
spotted a corner-side argument. As he radioed for a squad car, one man pulled out a gun and
shot another. In an earlier episode, Moose awoke one night to find a man beating a woman on
his porch. The chief vows not to leave, and officials say area crime has gone down.
A police chief moves into the most crime-plagued neighborhood in town. Does that sound
familiar? God's Son invaded a planet that was spinning in darkness and fear. "He became sin
who knew no sin." Can we not see how intimate and how intense God's love is for us?
(2 Corinthians
5.20
NRSV)
Paul says, "We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made
him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
Lord Jesus, thank you for coming into my world to bring hope and light. Amen.
