Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!"
(Luke 9.35 NRSV)

There was a University who decided to field a crew team. Unfortunately, they lost race after race. They practiced for hours every day, but never managed to come in any better than dead last.

The head of the university finally decided to send a spy to watch the Harvard team. So the spy slipped off to Cambridge and hid in the bulrushes off the Charles River, from where he carefully watched the Harvard team as they practiced.

The spy finally returned to the University. "I have figured out their secret," he announced. "They have eight guys rowing and only one guy shouting."

Perhaps, when we are having a difficult time getting along with one another in church, we can learn a lesson from the spy. We all have a coach and it is Jesus Christ. Are we listening to him or are we simply shouting at him?

God of peace, in my busyness remind me to listen carefully to my master and cleanse me of my anger. Amen.
