If then there is any encouragement in Christ...
Listen to St. Paul's words: "If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any
consolation from
love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete:
be of the
same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing
from selfish
ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of
you look
not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you
that was in
Christ Jesus."
(Philippians 2:1
NRSV)
There is a true story of an Illinois census counter. One day during the 1990 census she
approached a house, saw no dogs, and thought she was safe. When she rang the bell,
a woman
came out of the house and attacked her and bit her. The bite broke the skin, too, and
required
medical treatment. It's a crazy world! Still we dream. We share with St. Paul that idyllic
hope of a
world patterned after the life of Jesus himself.
Dear God, fill my mind and heart with the likeness of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
