I will grant her justice.
Jesus told his disciples a parable about such a woman. She was a widow who was in a
difficult
situation over a legal matter. She needed the intervention of a judge, but the judge in
her district,
Luke tells us, was a man "who neither feared God nor cared about men." Yet this poor
widow
kept coming to him day after day with her plea. For some time he refused even to listen
to her.
But finally he said to himself, "Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet
because this
widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually
wear me
out with her coming!"
What a great lesson for each of us. Don't give up! Our God is a just God!
(Luke 18:5
NRSV)
It has never been easy being a woman, but it is much easier today compared to the
world in which
Jesus lived. Women had few legal rights, and if a woman lost her husband, and she did
not have
other family members to turn to for support, her plight was dire indeed.
Dear Jesus, may I be just in all of my dealings, so that others will be touched with your
hope.
Amen.
