Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and
the wicked,
between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
Barnett says that some of his early musical attempts did not go well. He sometimes
produced
"pops" instead of "booms." He had problems with timing, and there was always the
possibility of
a misfire. However, he now has an established niche within a number of orchestras.
What an interesting picture of how Christians fit into the body of Christ! Different
interests,
different talents, different skills, but a niche for everyone including. Viva la difference!
That is a
French phrase usually employed to celebrate the difference between women and men.
It is also a
wondrous way to describe the uniqueness of every one of us.
(Malachi 3:18
NRSV)
In PEOPLE magazine, some time ago, there was a story about J. Paul Barnett. Barnett
is an
unusual musician. He is a concussionist. Notice I did not say percussionist. He does
not play the
drums. No, he is a concussionist. He plays the cannon. For years he has had the hobby
of building
antique firearms, especially cannons. More recently he discovered that his hobby could
contribute
to a symphony performance by providing the cannon sounds for works like
Tchaikovsky's "1812
Overture."
God of all, thank you for the promise that we will never be separated from your love.
Help me
also to celebrate the uniqueness of all your loved children. Amen.
