May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
(Galatians 6:14 NRSV)

The Kingdom of God is within you. That is where happiness resides. "God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me and I unto the world." There is no other way that leads to true peace, true joy, true contentment but the way of the cross. Only by surrendering to the love of that cross can we break the hold of our possessions, our past or our petty dreams.

There was once a red-hot baseball star who seemed to have found the freedom of the cross. He is Orel Hershiser, the brilliant pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hershiser calms his nerves by singing hymns. He thanks God for everything in his life.

Dear God, thank you for everything you have given to me, especially the cross of Jesus Christ. Amen.
