He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field.
(Matthew 13:31 NRSV)

I read about a very interesting kind of tree. It's called the banyan tree, and it grows mainly in Asia. Now, at first, the banyan tree looks like any other tree. It starts out with a thick trunk and lots of branches. As it grows, its branches grow bigger and longer until they take root in the ground and form new tree trunks. Then these new tree trunks send out branches which grow into the ground and form even more tree trunks. Soon, instead of just one banyan tree in a field, there are lots of banyan trees. That one tree has spread out and formed lots of other trees. Let's compare it to a bowl of water. There is a lot of clear water in a bowl, but what happens your put in a few drops of food coloring? All the water turns a different color from just a few drops of coloring.

The Bible says that the kingdom of God is like this. God is like the main trunk of the first banyan tree. We are the branches. As God's word spreads throughout the world, more and more people become followers of Jesus. In this way, God is spreading His love through the whole earth. We can help spread the kingdom of God by telling others about how much God loves them.

God of peace, show me the person I need to tell about your love. Amen.
