I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.
(John 15:5 NRSV)

It's springtime here in North America, and everything is green and growing. How do plants grow healthy and beautiful? Thousands of years ago, ancient Egyptian and Greek people used eggs to make their crops grow. The egg was a good luck symbol to those people. They would break eggs and smear them over their plowshares. They thought that these lucky eggs would help them to grow large, healthy crops.

The Bible states that we are like the branches of a large, healthy plant. But we don't break eggs to keep growing. The best way for us to keep growing is to stay close to God. God is the source of our strength. He is like the main tree. We are the branches, and if we stay close to Him we will keep growing spiritually. But if we don't stay close to God, we will stop growing spiritually. Then we will be cut off from God and thrown away. How do we stay close to God? We can start by loving others, praying, and reading our Bible. These actions will help us to grow healthy spiritually.

Lord Jesus, continue to show me the way to stay close to our Father in heaven. Amen.
