And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the
commandment just as you have heard it from the beginning you must walk in it.
Now what is the formula for staying connected to him? Listen carefully. Too many Christians miss
this formula which is found in both the fourteenth and the fifteenth chapters of John. Jesus says in
John 15:9-10, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. IF YOU
OBEY MY COMMANDS, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's
commands and remain in his love." Earlier Jesus had used nearly the same words in John 14:15,
"If you love me, you will obey what I command." This lesson is so vitally important. We are
looking for secrets of successful families. I can guarantee that if you will follow this formula laid
out by our Lord, you will find success as individuals and as families.
(2 John 1:6
NRSV)
Jesus says, "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must
remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. If a person remains in me
and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." In other words, the
purpose of our being connected to Christ is that we live productive lives. Now, why should we
live productive lives? Jesus tells us in John 15:11, "I have told you this so that my joy may be in
you and that your joy may be complete." We are connected to Christ so that we might live
productive lives and find true joy.
Dear Jesus, instill you commandments in my heart. Amen.
