And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it
filled the entire house where they were sitting.
On the day of Pentecost, all the disciples of Jesus were gathered together. Suddenly, a strong,
powerful wind came down, and the Holy Spirit touched all the disciples. They were able to speak
in all these different languages and understand one another at the same time. They were filled up
with the amazing power of the Holy Spirit of God. Today we hold up this flag and announce,
"Watch out! The powerful wind of God could be coming!" Be ready to receive God's strong wind
-- God's Spirit -- in your heart.
(Acts 2:2
NRSV)
When the weather bureau wants to signal to ships at sea and let them know what the weather is
like, they use a variety of flags. Each flag has a different meaning. A whole gale is an extremely
strong, fast wind, one that blows from 55 to 63 miles per hour. By holding up a whole gales flag,
I'm warning ships that an extremely strong, powerful wind is coming, so they better be prepared.
Lord Jesus, continue to bring God's strong spirit into my life and into the lives of those around
me. Amen.
