Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their
own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy.
If a society ever needed rescuing, ours most certainly does. Sensitive hearts know it does--even
sensitive hearts outside of the church. But, God is calling us to be rescuers. Someone is counting
on you to save them!
(Ephesians 4:28
NRSV)
There is a delightful scene in WINNIE THE POOH that goes something like this:
Pooh - "Did you fall into the river, Eeyore?"
Eeyore - "Silly of me, wasn't it?"
Pooh - "Is the river uncomfortable this morning?"
Eeyore - "Well, yes, the dampness you know."
Pooh - "You really ought to be more careful!"
Eeyore - "Thanks for the advice."
Pooh - "I think you're sinking."
Eeyore - "Pooh, if it's not too much trouble, would you mind rescuing me?"
Dear Jesus, help me to be alert to rescue someone in need. Amen.
