For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his
Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
We can be reconciled to God and to other people if we admit we need help, and if we
ask for forgiveness.
(Romans 5:10
NRSV)
It's not always easy to admit when we are wrong. I think this can be illustrated with a man driving
an automobile. A friend shared how that he and his wife were with a mayor of a certain city and
his wife traveling to a convention. They rented an automobile. The mayor decided that he wanted
to drive. As he drove across town, he became lost. Even though they were short on time, he
refused to stop and ask for directions. He refused to receive any help from the other persons
in the car. He insisted that he was not lost. He kept driving and driving and turning and turning
until they missed their appointment. "How simple it would have been if the mayor could just have
admitted 'I'm lost' and stopped at a service station and asked for directions. We could have been
put back on track. We could have made the convention if the mayor had been willing to admit that
he had made a mistake.
Yes, Lord, I have made mistakes. Please forgiven me and draw me close to you.
Amen.
