Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.
(Proverbs 22:6 NRSV)

As parents, it is impossible to treat children exactly the same, because each child is unique. That makes child-rearing the most complex of all human tasks. Doc Blakely once said that no man knows his true character until he has run out of gas, declared bankruptcy, and raised a teenager.

I like what Keith Miller said about his constant worry over his daughters: "I began to pray a different prayer each morning," he said. "Instead of talking to God about each child's needs, I started imagining that I was placing each one, one at a time, in my cupped hands. I would imagine being before God. He also had his hands cupped. I would place my hands inside his and gently take my hands apart, leaving each daughter in God's hands. I didn't say anything, but just released them to him. And just this one act seemed to take the pressure off me to run the girls' lives...."

May we also do all we can to raise Godly children.

Dear God, give me the guidance to raise your children in a way that will bring them close to your great love. Amen.
