Daily Devotions - A Few Moments With God

See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
(1 John 3:1 NRSV)

Karen Burton Mays says that once when one of their children was small and had been misbehaving, he found himself at the end of a stern parental lecture. "What are we going to do?" asked the adult. In self-resignation the child suggested, "Why don't we jes' frow me ina garbage." That, says Ms. Mays, has become the signature statement for any time when a family member is frustrated with himself: "Jes frow me ina garbage, I guess." This is where many people see themselves. "Persons of no importance." Name Unknown. "Jes frow me ina garbage, I guess." No value, no potential, no purpose.

But who does God say we are? We are his children!

Lord Jesus, thank you for bringing me into the family of God. Amen.
