Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has
given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
The season of Lent in the church is a time to start something. It is a time for us to prepare
ourselves for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lent has traditionally been a time of
penitence and self-denial. It is a time of taking stock of our lives. How will you prepare yourself
for the celebration of Jesus' resurrection?
(1 Peter 1:3
NRSV)
I recall a story of a man goes into a restaurant, his shirt open at the collar. He is stopped by the
maitre 'd who tells him he must wear a necktie to get in. So the man goes out to his car. He
looks around in vain for a tie. He sees a set of jumper cables. He ties these around his neck in a
fairly acceptable looking knot and lets the ends dangle free. He goes back to the restaurant
wearing this tie made from jumper cables. The maitre 'd carefully looks him over for a few
minutes and then says, "Well, okay, I guess you can come in--JUST DON'T START
ANYTHING."
Loving God, as I take time each day to prepare myself for Christ's resurrection, draw me closer
to your peace. Amen.
