For the needy shall not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
May we also not forget those in need and work to meet their needs.
(Psalm 9:18
NRSV)
Jesus was teaching one day among a great number of people--ordinary people like you and me. In
the crowd that day were people who were sick, people who were poor, people who were looking
for relief from their problems. Looking over the crowd, Jesus said, "Blessed are you who are
poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." The poor are forgotten, nameless people, even today.
But Jesus doesn't forget them. He called them blessed.
Dear God, you have given me so much. Help me to be responsive to those in need. Amen.
