Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."
(Matthew 19:21 NRSV)

After striking out, Lucy in a PEANUTS cartoon walks away with a mad face, muttering: "This bat is no good! It's too light! That ball they're using is no good either! How can anybody hit when the sun is so bright? I bat better when it's cloudy! It's too dusty out there, too! I can't hit well when the wind is blowing! And that bat I was using is too short! It's hard to see the ball today! You can't hit a ball when the bat is too thin! I think their pitcher is...." And then Charlie Brown says simply: "Good grief!"

Those first disciple's most certainly could have come up with lots of excuses, like Lucy did, as to why they could not follow Jesus. But, they did follow. What about us? Will we do it today and all day long or put it off?

Dear God, may my faithfulness be complete in honoring you. Thank you for all the ways your reach out to me. Amen.
