So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the
hope of eternal life.
That is realized eschatology, enjoying the wonder and the majesty of the Jesus' victory, even
though it is not been fully accomplished in this life.
(Titus 3:7
NRSV)
Theologians speak of realized eschatology, which means last things. It means we can live now in
the light of Christ's victory. When I was a child, I remember carefully looking, feeling, and
shaking the presents under the Christmas tree. There were many times I could figure out which
presents were mine, because I turned in my "wish list" early, and I got at least a few things that
were on my list. Through my looking, feeling, and shaking, I was already enjoying the pleasure of
the future event, namely the opening of my gifts. Only Christmas would reveal those gifts in their
fullness.
Dear God, thank you for giving me a touch of heaven today. Amen.
