Daily Devotions - A Few Moments With God
Friday, December 29, 2000

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
(Philippians 4:6 NRSV)

The best of families also have good communication. I read a cartoon that showed two boys walking to school, discussing their parents. One of them said to the other one, "I've figured out a system for getting along with my Mom. She tells me what to do and I do it."

I hope we all understand the value of obedience. I hope every young person knows that Mom and Dad are on your side. Even though parents can make mistakes, and often do, what's in their heart is what counts. Most young people can appreciate their parent's love and concern.

Good communication begins with sensitivity; sensitivity and sharing; keeping the lines of communication open and the dialogue flowing. Sometimes we make a mistake of doing all the talking and not really listening. As I learned as a Speech Communication major in college, listening is the most important part of communication.

Lord Jesus, help me to trust my communication with you and with my family. Amen.
