Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Come closer to me." And they came closer. He
said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.
We are more realistic than that. Still, we hope for a better year.
The best way to have a better year is to draw ourselves closer to God and closer to our families.

We are eternal optimists, are we not? We somehow expect the new year that is just around the
corner will be better than last year. Deep in our hearts we agree with Lucy in the PEANUTS
cartoons when she says, "I don't want ups and downs. I want ups and ups and ups!"
Dear God, your grace is greater than my imperfections, so guide me to become closer to you and
to my family. Amen.
