Daily Devotions - A Few Moments With God

He proclaimed, "The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals.
(Mark 1:7 NRSV)

You may know the terrible story of the large chess tournament that was being held in a big hotel. The players were gathering in the lobby to brag about how smart they were, who they had defeated, and the strategies they had devised. At that point, the manager came on the public-address system and said, "Will the hotel guests please go to their rooms now?"

As the area quickly emptied, the assistant said, "You were right to send them away."

The manager replied, "Yes, who wants chess nuts boasting in an open foyer?" I told you it was terrible.

The point is that God calls us to a life of service and humility. That doesn't mean we hang our heads, but our call is to let Christ shine more while we fade into Christ's light.

Dear Jesus, may your spirit shine more fully through me today and forever. Amen.
