Let each of you lead the life that the Lord has assigned, to which God called you.
This is my rule in all the churches.
As Christians, who believe in Jesus Christ, we don't have to compare ourselves to anyone. God
has blessed us with who we are and with great gifts that are sufficient for anything God calls us to
do.
(1 Corinthians 7:17
NRSV)
There were two brothers who were scoundrels--cheating, stealing, deceiving everyone they could.
One brother died. The remaining brother called the local pastor and asked if he would conduct the
funeral service. He said there would be a sizeable honorarium. The pastor said, "But the whole
country knows what a scoundrel your brother was." The man reminded the pastor that there
would be a large honorarium if he would conduct the service. So the pastor agreed. The brother
said, "I have one favor to ask. I want you to refer to my brother as a SAINT." Now the pastor
had a problem. So that afternoon he had the funeral sermon. The pastor pointed at the casket and
said, "You know this man was a scoundrel, but he was a saint compared to his brother."
Dear God, help me to feel secure in who I am, as I fulfill your call in my life. Amen.
