Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for
God will judge fornicators and adulterers.
We all know that marriage involves much more than just a few words that were said at our
wedding ceremony. A great marriage takes lots of commitment and a fulness of God's forgiving
love.
What can you do today to recharge your commitments?
(Hebrews 13:4
NRSV)
I remember a story of a sailor who brought his girlfriend to the local minister late on a Friday
evening and asked that they be married. "That's fine," replied the pastor, "Do you have a marriage
license?" The sailor hung his head. "We got to the courthouse too late," he replied. "It was
already closed." The minister shook his head. "I'm sorry. I can't perform a marriage ceremony
without a license." The sailor put a pleading expression on his face, "Couldn't you just say a few
words to get us through the weekend?"
God of commitments, give me the guidance I need to recharge my commitments. Amen.
