Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will
keep it.
It was a penetrating and appropriate statement Jesus made when he spoke of those who would
gain the whole world and at the same time lose their soul. Some of us may be in that category. We
too may be imprisoned by our possessions. The walls of that prison may be shutting out our
responsibilities to our family, our community and to God.
May let go of that which imprisons us.

We shake our heads in wonder when Luke, the gospel-writer, tells us that Lot's wife perished
because she would not leave her possessions. We say, "How can that be?"
Dear God, show me the way out of my prison. Amen.
