We do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now
crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he
might taste death for everyone.
There is a greater symbol than all. It is the cross upon which Christ died for our sins.
Let's keep our proper focus on that which really matters.
(Hebrews 2:9
NRSV)
There is a story of a church that was producing a special dramatic program. In order to make
room for the pageant, several articles in the front of the worship center were removed. One was
the American flag. Boy, did that bring flack! But the pastor noted, wryly, "Nobody mentioned
the fact that the cross had been removed for the play, also." People were upset over the flag being
absent from the sanctuary but not the cross!
Dear Jesus, forgive me when I lose my focus and narrowly focus on the insignificant. May I today
see you more clearly and faithfully. Amen.
