He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might
live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
When Christ bore the cross of Calvary, he identified with our situation. He endured the crises that
we endure--rejection, suffering, betrayal. He walked where we walk; hurt where we hurt.

A TV news anchorwoman in Houston, TX named Sydney Seaward a few years ago performed a
courageous act. Near the conclusion of a special report on breast cancer treatment that aired
repeatedly, Seaward removed her ash blond wig before the camera, revealing her own hair loss
from chemotherapy. By doffing the wig she has worn during broadcasts of the all-news station,
Seaward hoped to raise public awareness about cancer and its treatment. "My goal is to demystify
cancer and chemotherapy and to show that treatment is nothing to be afraid of, said Seaward. By
identifying herself with other victims of this frightening disease, Sydney Seaward was seeking to
reach out her hand to them--to show that someone understands.
God of peace, thank you for sending Jesus to show me and the world how much you understand
our situation. Amen.
