"If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their
cross and follow me."
It may be that you are standing at a fork in the road. You have never made up your mind about
Jesus. You have admired his great teachings. You want your children to learn about him in
Sunday School. You have no question about his moral superiority over every man or woman who
has ever lived. But you have never been able to say with Simon Peter, "You are the Christ, the
Son of the living God." You have never made Him the Lord of your life. Our Scripture for today
offers you a choice--a decision for you to make. "If any want to become my followers..." Not
admirer, but disciple. Not fan, but follower. Not church member, but bearer of the cross.
(Matthew 16:24
NRSV)
I believe it was Yogi Berra who once said, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it!"
Son of the living God, be my savior today and forever. Amen.
