You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the
living and enduring word of God.
God also wants new things to happen in your spiritual journey. God doesn't want us to become
stale or too tight or comfortable in our present spiritual being. God wants us to become new. God
was us to grow into his image of faith, hope and love.
What new step is God calling you to take?
(1 Peter 1:23
NRSV)
Most of us have seen a caterpillar. It has a long body, lots of legs and it's fuzzy. I read something
interesting about caterpillars once. Did you know that caterpillars can grow a new skin every so
often? As they get bigger and older, caterpillars can grow a brand-new skin underneath their old
one. Soon, their old skin starts to get all tight. They can't move around in it as easily. Then one
day, the old skin just falls off and there's the new skin right underneath. You know, we humans
do that, too. Every day we lose a few old skin cells. They're so small we don't even notice them.
And then new skin cells grow in their place. New stuff is pretty exciting, isn't it?
Dear God, show me the next step in my spiritual growth and well being. Amen.
