Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Our most unique quality is the way God loves us. You all have heard it said before
that God loves everyone, no matter who we are or what we have done. I first began
to understand God's love for me when I was a freshman in high school. My home
church had a special weekend program where I met Carolyn Jennings. Carolyn was
an attractive young girl, and she accepted me for who I was. And through her, God's
love became real for me.
My life has never been the same since I met Carolyn. I experienced God's love,
grace, and forgiveness through her. I then made a commitment to Christ. John 12:24
says, "...unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single
grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit." You see, we have to die to our will like a
single grain, before we can take on God's will and become truly fruitful in our lives.
(Romans 12:2
NRSV)
Each of us is a unique creation of God. Our fingerprints are different. We all look
different. I even have a birth mark on right leg near my knee that looks like a car. I
haven't met anyone yet that has a birth mark on them that looks like a car. When I
say the word "caterpillar," I want you to repeat it after me. "Caterpillar!" Did we all
sound a like? No, we didn't. Each of us has a different sounding voice. Even our
personalities and the way we think are different from one another. That is the way
God has created us.
Dear God, fill me with your holy will. Amen.
