Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
When I arrived at our special meeting place, I couldn't find Wallabies. After asking
around, I soon discovered that I was in the wrong place. I ran to the phone hoping to
save some of my pride. I caught her just before she left her office. I was supposed to
be at the Galleria Mall located in North Dallas. It was a long drive back to my home
in Itasca.
From our previous conversation, I knew that I just had to meet the wonderful
woman. But, I had to put my desires aside and put the situation into God's hands. A
few days later, we were talking and learning about one another at Wallabies by the
skating ring.
Today, Michele and I have been happily married for over eight years. In many
situations of life, we have to die to our own desires, so that we will have the faith
we need to live by the desires of God.
(Psalms 37:4
NRSV)
One of the most embarrassing moments in my life was the first date I had with my
wife Michele. A mutual friend had told us about each other, and Michele called and
we set up our first date. We are to meet by the skating ring and eat at Wallabies in
Dallas. When she mentioned the skating ring in Dallas, I thought of the Plaza of
America in downtown Dallas.
Dear Jesus, may my desires give way to yours. Amen.
